22nd Ladies Charity Shoot Is April 8-10

Participants in the 2015 Ladies Charity Skeet Classic

Support a worthwhile charity while having a great time and introducing skeet to some novice shooters at the 22nd annual Ladies Charity Skeet Classic. The 2016 shoot on April 8-10 will be the fifth and final event at Fairfax Rod & Gun Club (Manassas, VA) before moving to a new location.

The upcoming event will benefit wounded warriors from all wars and their families through the Fisher House Foundation, which provides a place to stay for wounded warriors and their families near military treatment facilities across the country.

In addition to a four-gun registered shoot for experienced shooters, newcomers can get an introduction to skeet and enjoy breaking their first clay targets.

Come ready to buy raffle table tickets and participate in a live auction on Saturday evening. You can also support the event with your donation for the auction or raffle tables. To donate, contact Rebecca Myers, ramyers@cox.net, 703-323-8321.

The Ladies Charity Skeet Classic began in 1993 when a group of shooters brainstormed a ladies event to encourage more females to shoot skeet. Someone then suggested that it benefit charity, and the successful first event at the St. Augustine (FL) Rod & Gun Club provided $4000 to the Betty Griffin House, a shelter for abused women and children that had recently opened. Over the next several years, the shoot rotated to several Florida clubs, providing funds to local charities helping women, children, and those recovering from substance abuse.

In 2003, it moved to the Memphis (TN) Sports Shooting Association where it had a seven-year run, raising as much as $125,000 for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in some years. In its five years at Fairfax Rod & Gun Club, the Ladies Charity Shoot Classic has benefited Fisher House Foundation and Wounded Warrior Project.

Are you Practicing or Playing?

January 15, 2016 By Cara Woodard

Many years ago, Henry Ford was quoted as saying something like, “Obstacles are those frightening things you see when you lose sight of your goals.”

I’m pretty sure he wasn’t referring to the shooting sports when he made this statement, butwith a little massaging it can, and in my opinion does, fit our sport.

When we shoot, are we just having fun shooting with our friends or do we have a goal? Are we practicing, trying to hit the ’10 ring’ more often, trying to hit low 5 sooner, or trying to hit that elusive rabbit?

In other words, are we working on that part of our sport that we as individuals need to work on, or are we losing sight of our personal goals and just playing?

Barry Hartmann is an NSSA Certified Master Level Instructor.
